groomed cross country ski trails michigan XC Ski HQ

Cross Country Ski Report – Thursday, Feb 25th

Temps got very cold last night, which is great news for the trails. The grooming team is snow combing the entire system this morning, and will attempt to set fresh tracks. If they are not able to set fresh tracks, they might be a bit slick until it warms up later this afternoon. We have 14-24+ inches of snow in the woods, and 4-19 inches packed on most of the trail surface. Some bits of debris are starting to show up on the Tall Pines trail, and in some other places under the big pines, which is typical for this time of year. Overall, there is plenty of snow on 99.9% of the trails, and everything is open and in darn good condition!

COMING UP:

Sunday, Feb 28th: If you’re 19 or younger, join us for the 27th Annual Junior Muffin Race! The Junior Muffin Race this year will be a single skier freestyle race (instead of a relay as in years past). The course will be approximately 6km of rolling terrain. There are also Mini Muffin races for ages 11 and younger, with shorter distances. Awards will be given to top three females and males, and for best costumes! Click here for more information – online registration is required.

Saturday, March 6th: Join us for Ribs & Blues! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Ribs & Blues features an afternoon of fantastic live music from Rhett’s Eastside Blues Duo, as well as German Dave’s famous BBQ ribs. It’s a perfect day to hit the trails, then kick back by the outdoor fire pit and enjoy great music and outstanding ribs, scalloped potatoes, and coleslaw for $12 ($6 for kids 8 and younger).

The Stone Turtle Cafe is open for outdoor dining, as well as 25% capacity indoor dining! Enjoy a Fireside Cider by the fire on the sun deck!
