Cross Country Ski Report – Thursday, March 13th, 2014

Ginzu Dana spent a lot of time slicing and dicing the hard pack snow yesterday and successfully Ginzu groomed the Tall Pines, Mackinac Cut, Wild turkey, Trapper’s Cabin, Blizzard and Adventure trails. He will go after the Manitou and Rolling Hills trails this morning.

All 8 trails are open for a total of 18 kilometers (11 miles) of classic skiing and skate skiing. Depth of packed snow ranges from 10 to 16 inches (24 inches in the Blizzard X-C Ski Park where we make snow). Depth of unpacked snow ranges from 12 to 24 inches. Good spring skiing conditions for classic and skate skiing prevail.

Today: Sunny. Highs in the mid 20’s. Winds SW 10 to 15 mph.
Friday: Mostly cloudy. Chance of wintry mix. Highs in the upper 30’s. 30% chance of precipitation.
Saturday: Colder and sunny. Possible snow in the morning. Highs in the mid 20’s. Winds NW 5 to 15 mph.

The longest standing juniors race in Michigan, the Muffin Race will be held at Cross Country Ski Headquarters this Sunday, March 16th. Registration begins at 9am on Sunday, and we will shoot for a 10:30am start. This is a Michigan Cup Junior Race. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in the girls and boys races.
After the 8km Senior Muffin Division Pursuit race, we will hold three Junior Muffin freestyle races: Ages 6 years and under, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. All racers 12 and under will be awarded a medal!

There is a $10 entry fee for the Senior Racers (13 and older) and it includes a Pig Roast Lunch. There is no entry fee for the Junior Muffin Racers.

Today’s lunch special is the Turkey Pesto Panini: kettle cooked turkey, sliced fresh tomatoes, spinach/arugula blend and provolone, grilled to perfection on Stone House Bread by Chef Erin.
