Cross Country Ski Report – Thursday, March 28th, 2013

NOTICE: If you’re wondering why we’re still sending ski reports, it’s because we still have skiable snow! Once the snow melts, we will sign off our daily ski report and only send out new posts for special events and sales.

Looks like a sunny spring skiing day. The trails are crusty in the morning, but after being Ginzu groomed by Stu the skating lanes are really fun. Once the tracks warm up in late morning, classic skiing is very good till about 3PM when the tracks get soft and slow.

There are icy spots on all trails. There are developing bare patches on parts of the Manitou that will have to be portaged across, but a large portion of it is still good. There is  a bare spot on the bottom of the Rolling Hills extended trail hill, but as of 11:00am there are still 2 ice bridges to cross it.

Today: A mix of clouds and sun. High 43F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph

Tonight: Clear to partly cloudy. Low near 25F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny skies. High 43F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday night: Clear. Low 26F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday: Times of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s.

New Snow: 0 inches

Snow Depth in Woods: 7 to 10 inches

Packed Snow Depth on Trails: 5 – 9 inches

Ice, Glaze, Barespots: Some thin spots on all trails, and bare spots on Manitou and Tall Pines. All trails have ice spots. Tracks are glazed until the temps rise.

Today’s Stone Turtle Day Lodge Chef’s special is a Turkey, spinach, provolone and tomato Panini made with Stone House bread. Better than a BLT! The menu also includes a number of sandwiches and Paninis made with locally baked Stone House bread. Also Famous Spicy Chili and Veggie Chili will both be served with a warm sourdough roll.

The “March Madness, aka Labor Day Sale” is in full swing. You are invited to make use of our demo center, where you can try steel edged X-C skis for free and find out if you like to crust ski!

Bring your sunscreen and enjoy the sundeck after skiing and lunch!
