Spring Skiing XC Ski HQ

Cross Country Ski Report – Tuesday, March 2nd

Yesterday was cold and windy, and groomer Butch spent about 5 hours clearing debris and snowcombing the skating lanes. Conditions in the skate lanes are now very good, considering the temperature swings we’ve had lately. Due to ice and debris, we have closed the Manitou and Tall Pines trails for the time being. The skate skiing should be great again today on the open trails, though; 99% of the skating lanes on the open trails are not icy, and much of it has beautiful, white, snowcombed snow. Classic skiing outside of the tracks is recommended, as the tracks are hard set and icy. We have 6-14 inches inches of snow in the woods, and 2-6 inches packed on most of the trail surface. It sure has been windy, so keep an eye out for debris out there.

Saturday, March 6th: Join us for Ribs & Blues! A favorite XC Ski HQ tradition, Ribs & Blues features an afternoon of fantastic live music from Rhett’s Eastside Blues Duo, as well as German Dave’s famous BBQ ribs. It’s a perfect day to hit the trails, then kick back by the outdoor fire pit and enjoy great music and outstanding ribs, scalloped potatoes, and coleslaw for $12 ($6 for kids 8 and younger).

The Michigan Cup Relays are Sunday, March 7th! Advance registration is required. Read all about it and sign up your relay team here!

The Stone Turtle Cafe is open for outdoor dining, as well as 25% capacity indoor dining. Warm up with a bowl of veggie chili and a Bosco Stick in front of the field stone fireplace!

All the best,
