Cross Country Ski Report – Sunday, February 4th

Sun Deck Fun at XC Ski HQ

What a fun and sunny day we had yesterday! We were thrilled to see so many folks out enjoying the snow we still have, and basking in the sunshine on the deck. Conditions remain similar today: The trail doctoring team continued to spread snow last night, so the outbound trail to Trapper’s Cabin has the best conditions, with classic tracks and a nice skate lane. The Practice Area has also been snowcombed this morning and has full coverage and great conditions for lessons, demos, and kids of all ages who want to ski up and down the practice hills.

The rest of the trails have seen better days since the warm temps have taken their toll, but most of the trail network is still “skiable”. There are several bare spots and some wetter sections starting to form, but most of them can be skied around. Skating is not recommended, and classic skiing should be done in the middle of the trail, as the tracks have been worn through in most places. The sections that were wet last night froze up a bit so there may be some icy patches out there. Trapper’s Cabin is the most skiable, Adventure and Manitou are passable, Rolling Hills can be done with patience, Tall Pines and Wild Turkey are the least skiable, but in the window between ice and slush could be quite enjoyable. The morning will have crustier, faster conditions, and transforming to softer snow around 11am. There’s still snow on the ground today, so put on your skis and get out there!

Today’s Forecast: Sunny. Areas of patchy fog. High 43F. Winds light and variable.
