Best new Nordic Cross Country Ski Gear for the 2026/27 season
Lots of new offerings this year from all our favorite brands!
We’ll start with the stand out for this season: the new Salomon Equipe line up.
Salomon re-vamped their whole high end race fleet this year ! The new Salomon Equipe S/Labs are now THE lightest skate skis on the market, coming it at only 900 grams for a PAIR! Unreal advances in terms ski weight and swing weight, they also created a few new molds for more niche conditions. Our favorite is the new Uni-Cold version, built with 34 Universal construction. The most ‘universal’ ski in the new S/Lab line-up, everyone who tried them at our testing either bought them, or plans to buy them. Salomon moved the binding plate forward by 1.5cm to give a more ‘on top of the ski’ feel. SL22 grind, Innowave core, and thin ply carbon construction deliver ultimate S/Lab performance in a ski that looks as fast as it feels.
Our favorite addition to the race fleet, however, is the Equipe Pro Skate Package. We demoed the new Equipe Pro Skate skis late last winter and were totally blown away. They felt exactly like S/Labs: ultra light, ultra fast, ultra smooth, and the price was unreal for the level of performance we experienced. This is race level ski at a budget freindly price point. G5 universal base, Innowave core, and the same construction as the Uni-Cold S/Labs, these skis are gonna be a hot ticket this year.
The perfect match to the Equipe Pro skate skis are the brand new Equipe Pro Skate BOA boots. Built like the S/Race boots from a few years ago, (pre-BOA) they feel like absolute tanks. Ultra light, but totally rock solid and robust, not to mention comfortable. The integration of the BOA lacing system allows for a hyper-customizable fit, and again, the price point was amazing. High end race class BOA boots without breaking the bank. And we thought it couldn’t get any better..
The cherry on top of this cake is the new Equipe Pro Pole. 100% carbon with Salomon’s beloved click strap/handle combo, great swing weight and responsiveness, and removable baskets with a tungsten tip.
The graphic makeover for the Equipe series is also just awesome. The pictures look great, but if you have a chance to see any of the gear in person, you’ll be just as staked as we are. Nice job, Salomon.
A few new recreational offerings we are bringing in this year are the Fischer Apollos, the Salomon Snow 47 Skins, and the Atomic Savor XC Skintecs.
The Fischer Apollos are excellent in track skis for beginner recreational skiers who was a ski that easy to use and gets good glide. The Salomon Snow 47 Skins and the Atomic Savor XC’s are both compact skin skis. We love compact skin due to their great maneuverablility. They both come in shorter lengths that traditional skins and we’re pumped to have skin offerings that are compact and bit more user friendly for people who are just getting into the skin game.
In terms of entry level/intermediate skate skis, both Fischer and Atomic have new offering. The Atomic Pro Skate is geared towards beginners who want a ski that is easy to control. They come in three lengths: 170cm, 180cm and 190cm, with medium and hard stiffnesses for each length, making them really easy to fit properly. The Fischer Speedpro series is replacing the popular Aerolite skis as reliable and race ready skis for people who have racing aspirations or just like the traditional javelin skate ski side cut.
Fischer is going all in on BOA boots! The RC5 Skate BOA boot will be the least expensive skate BOA boot on the market, and has a tremendous amount of high performance features for a mid-level boot.
The Speedmax 6 Classic BOA boot is a new race level boot for classic skiers, featuring a soft turnamic speedmax sole, carbon fused shell and of course, the BOA lacing system. In terms of classic race level boots, the Speedmax 6 BOAs are going to be hit.
Finally, the Speedmax 7 Skate BOA boots. Our favorite new boot this year, due to the combining of Olympic features and a desire for comfort. They feature a double BOA, just like the Speedmax 9’s, to give two adjustability zones. They big difference is there is actual padding around the ankle, for those of us who like high performing boots without sacrificing comfort. The toe box on both the Speedmax 7’s and the 9’s feel identical, so you maintain a very ‘close to the ski’ feel in either boot. If you’ve always wanted race class boots that actually feel comfortable, these boots are for you.
Speaking of boots, Salomon unleashed the new Outside BC Boot. If you want the most heavy duty backcountry boot out there, this is the boot for you. Not only is super rugger and robust, out favorite feature is the removable liner. We’ve been waiting a long time for excellent BC boot from Salomon, and the fact that it comes with a removable liner had us completely sold. It also has a grippy sole for when you’re walking around in them; another subtle feature we really love. The extra wide ankle strap provide excellent support, and a completely reinforced outer shell increases both warmth and protection.
We also are bringing in the new Salomon Outside 100 BC skis after we sold out of the new Outside 82’s about 3 times last year, and then couldn’t get any more. We will still carry a LOT of the Outside 82’s, but for the handful of skiers who want a touch more floatation, we will have the 100’s in stock as well.
