Cross Country Ski Report – Saturday, December 21st

Today is the first day of winter! The dense snow continued throughout the day yesterday, bringing the total from Friday night up to over 3 inches. More snow is forecast for tomorrow.

The Rolling Hills, Manitou, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, Trapper’s Cabin and Adventure Trails are in  excellent condition. The Tall Pines and  Blizzard trails are in excellent to very good condition. Tracks are machine set on all trails.
We have 8 trails open for a total of 17 kilometers (10.7 miles)

Depth of packed snow ranges from 6 to 17 inches (17 inches in the Blizzard XC Ski Park where we make snow). Depth of unpacked snow ranges from 9 to 17 inches

Today, Dec 21:  Cloudy. High 27F. Winds NE to 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight: Scattered snow showers becoming steadier and heavier late. Low near 20F. Winds NE 10 to 20. mph. Snow accumulating 1 to 2 inches.

Sunday, Dec 22: Snow during the morning will transition to snow showers during the afternoon. High 22F. Winds NE at 10 to 20 mph. 4 to 6 inches of snow expected..

Monday, Dec 23: Snow showers. High 14F. Winds N at 7 mph. Chance of snow 70%.

XC Ski Kids Camp, on Thursday, December 26th! Instructor Jim Bradley will be leading the camp, which is aimed at teaching youngsters to XC ski.This camp is for kids ranging from age 7-12, and it will start at 10am and end at 1pm. The cost is $40 and includes equipment rental, ski lesson, guided ski tour, hot cocoa break, and pizza lunch! To register, please call 800-832-2663, or email, and be sure to include your kid’s height, weight, and shoe size.
Today’s Toko Wax clinic will be postponed to a time later in February.

The lunch special in the Stone Turtle Day Lodge today is the Turkey Pesto Panini on Stone House bread with spinach and tomatoes grilled to perfection by chef Erin. Of course spicy chili and spicy veggie chili with a 7 grain roll are also on the menu along with a whole host of other paninis and sandwiches.
